there is chinese chicken salad.
i love the dressing
Of course!
make them at home is my recommendation.
tofu, fish, boiled vegatables, rice:D, everything steamed.
those are the REAL chinese food.
those from the resturant are like bootlegged chinese food.
fried cat
go steamed - avoid the fried
ask them to cut down on the salt/MSG
well I am half chinese. My papa(grandpa) use to make amazing cantonese food.Of course their is many different cuisines. I can not tell u the names ..lol my grandpa never spoke a word of english & my dad did not care if my sis & I learned but the fact is people have the idea american chinese foo dis authentic ! & it really is not . Ask someone in china if they know what an egg roll is .
anyways I aourl say if ur talking about americanize chinese food go for stir fries & rice
real chinese it actually soo good for you. the stuff u get at take out & chinese restaurants r american chinese food. ive never seen an authentic chinese place before but i know what its like since one my good friends is chinese & i had dinner at his house.
but as for the take out stuff.just think about it, cut out the fried stuff if u need to. white rice is actually better than fried rice, chicken an brocoli instead of sweet & sour chicken cuz the sweet & sour has so much batter on it. anything with a coating on it isnt good.
Chinese food is healthy. It is the restaurants that make it unhealthy.
Anything soup-based is generally healthier and less greasy.
I am not sure about healthy (American) Chinese food because most of them wok fry in tons of oil (Fat & Calories). Granted, they do use vegetables that r not cooked to worthlessness, but, I am assuming u r talking about healthy food as far as for ur heart, blood stream, & waistline. Trust me, every Chinese kitchen upscale or not uses tons of oil to wok fry, what do u think makes that chicken so juicy?
Vegetables provide ur body with essential nutrients for ur body, they do not mean u wont get fat or wont have a heart attack. You can take raw broccoli & eat it lathered in butter. You will still get the benefits that the broccoli may provide but it wont make the butter good for you.
My suggestion would be to try Vietnamese food. It typically is very pure in its choice of ingredients. Particularly the soup Pho, pronounced ''fah its an interestingly light beef broth soup, that has a variety of Asian styled flavors; ur choice of meat, rice noodles, & accompanying the bowl, they bring a platter of more flavors to personalize ur soup. Typically the platter is served to u with Thai Basil, Bean Sprouts, JalapeƱos but can include fresh Mint, Cilantro, among other interesting Asian ingredients.
On every table, in every Pho restaurant, u will find a variety of sauces to mix into ur Pho or other Vietnamese dishes. The typical are: Hoisin sause, Sririacha Rooster Hot Sauce, & Fish Oil. Keep in mind, adding the Hoisin does ''up'' the calories quite a bit, since it is very rich. I just add the Sririacha Hot Sauce or there homemade chili sauce.
Another interesting dish that Vietnamese Restaurants offer is Spring Rolls, I know u r thinking u have had this before, but u indeed have not. As the Vietnamese take: Rice Noodles, Lettuce, Cucumber, Cilantro, Roasted Pork & Shrimp; wrap them in a thin, light rice dough, & serve them fresh with a homemade peanut sauce. They r not fried at all. It is a light & healthy choice but still very tasty.
I hope this helps u fulfill ur objective in finding a healthier choice for tasty Asian Food. I am sure there r healthier choices for Chinese Food out there, but I would have to say that u wont find them very frequently, if at all.
A lot of places will steam some of the stir-fried dishes. I usually get steamed chicken and broccolli with the sauce on the side. That way its not just sitting in all the grease and oil and you can control how much you put on. Also its best to go with the steamed rice (brown or white) instead of the fried rice.
mixed veggies
Well, if you're going to some place like PF Chang is or Ho Lee Chow, yeah, you're going to get greased up, oversalted crap. Crab rangoons & chicken chow mein r 100% American food.
But if you're going to a really authentic Chinese restaurant, for a really nice sit-down meal, you're getting pretty healthy food. Steamed fish, wok-seared shellfish, tofu or veggies, noodles, rice - if prepared properly, they have little fat & r very healthy for you. Dim sum can be a bit more unhealthy, considering all the grease-fried food, but even there, u can find relatively healthy choices like rice rolls & congee.
Unless you live on Chinese take-out, what is the problem? Even if the American Chinese restaurant is as you say, people should eat healthily so that they CAN indulge in flavors they love that are less healthy. If the US Department of Healthy Eats says bacon is bad, eating it once in a while wo not kill you dead. Eat healthy and then enjoy Chinese food, bacon, ice cream that tastes like ice cream, whole milk, and any other food item that you like to eat.
Of course, it usually has to be made at home, though. Cooking Chinese is so easy-peasy, if u were to be shown the base components.you'd say, ''Hey, let is stay in & eat at home. It really is that simple. Acquiring the ingredients & knowing how to prep them, is half the battle. If u must choose to order a dish, try Cantonese Chow Mein, tell them u do NOT want the little shrimps, that, at times, r served with it. It is a quirk of mine, but the little shrimps r not deveined, Do u know what is in those black veins, that run up the backs of shrimp?
You guessed it !, & it just gets cooked in along with everything else. Repugnent ? indeed, but u deserve the truth. Good grief, I worked part-time in a Chinese kitchen in Toronto is chinatown. I was there for 6 months, only the proprietors know their menu. The next time u go to eat Chinese, ask if u can take a peak in the kitchen. Take a boo at all the prep areas, the floors & the kitchen staff is fingernails.
Be careful.
It depends on where u r eating. Most fast food chinese restaurants r not selling real Chinese food. They r just selling food that we like. It is not that easy to find a good chinese restaurant but u can still try to look for a good one. There seafood is pretty nice. You should try there baked fish, chilled shrimp in chinese mustard sauce, or there Szechuan Pepper Fish. If u do not like seafood there is there bean curd tofu or there shrimp noodles. There is also a hot chicken chinese salad.
All chinese food is healthy. The Chinese food that is found in America is not chinese food. It has been americanized. Take fortune cookies for example. Nobody in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan. has ever heard of it.
I am on diet and I just ordered sauteed tofu, very healthy.
yeah of course. you can eat tofu, stir fry vegetables, chicken and broccoli
go to http://peiwei.com/ to see what kind of healthy foods interest you.
hope it helps =]
No take-out is necessarily healthy. But since you ''love love love'' it, I would suggest having your orders steamed & broiled. This gets rid of as much excess fat and grease as possible. Stay as far away as possible from fried foods and you should be fine. Hope this helps : - ]
steamed dimsum should be good.
I am not so sure! Enjoy it and the next day eat healthy. That is what I do. I Love, Love, Chinese food. I think is like sex after you are done, latter you are ready for some more!!!
Here in Italy they have steamed ravioli at Chinese restaurants but I do not know how authentic it is. Seems to be much healthier than the fried stuff anyway.
However, you can not beat a plateful of fried rice with lashings of sweet&sour chicken. Long live monosodium glutamate!! (once in a while, anyway!)
Try Japanese food (it is not all raw fish!)
yes, how do you think the shaolin monks stayed skinny. its just the restaurants here that make it so greasy. some things that i consider healthy are string beans, some of their fried foods made with natural oils, and they did include seafood and vegitables. i also like their steamed dumplings. you could make all their foods that were altered to be unhealthy into healthier versions.
Actually Chinese food is one of the most healthy diets in the world, just make sure it is not a commercial version of the food, try the original natural one. Usually dishes with rice and vegetables are among the most delicious ones and the healthiest ones.
Actually a lot of the chinese foods are better because the vegies are not cooked to mush allowing the vitamines and nutrients to stay in them, but you should stay away from the fried foods, they do have too much fat in them.
sure.stuff that leaves out the salt and oil.steamed veggies with chicken, and, ah, uhm, well.
All of the fried chicken meals ( almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken.etc..) are really bad for you. I usually get steamed veggie stirfry spicy.
plain rice
any type of soup is pretty healthy
vegetables
Chicken, but not too much.
Or just order some rice.
yeah, in China.
the one by my house has a healthy-less sodium-less fat, menu. I can not remember all of the items, but most restaraunts have those type of menus, or at least a section in the menu.
White rice.
Wokked vegetables.
...if you like chinese, you more than likely will like Thai food, switch to that, way more healthy.
Chinese veggies are good, ask for the stir fry , plain, with sauce on the side.
tofu
who caaaares grease it up brah
chinese food is pretty healthy in my opinion if you know what to order. I adore Chinese food.
